OUR STORY

The story of Château Moulin de Gueyraude begins with a meeting in the vineyards during the harvest season, between Matthieu Thienpont and Beatrijs Devlieghere, who had come all the way from Flanders and would become his wife in 1991.

Matthieu, the youngest of thirteen children, decided to take over part of his father George Thienpont’s estate. He chose the farm, located at the foot of Château Puygueraud.

A few years later, Matthieu and Beatrijs planted and purchased neighboring vineyard plots to combine their livestock activities with winemaking—two complementary pursuits.

THROUGH THE GENERATIONS

This family  of Flemish merchants began investing as early as 1920 in Troplong Mondot in Saint-Émilion (a property sold in 1935), and then in 1924 in Vieux Château Certan in Pomerol.

A new generation emerged in 1946 with George and Monica Thienpont, who came from Flanders. They settled in Puygueraud, undertook the renovation of the 15th-century château, and thus continued the family legacy.
